:: Culture Influences ::

Critical Reflection 1:

I pod phones has influence the community widely. As you can see, nowadays there's too ,any invention of mobile phones has it's own ability of attracting people by inventing wireless internet connection, wireless television video, Walkman and etc. Somehow, invention of mobile phones has lessen the burden of people from communicating directly. For instance, meeting a client at certain times and somewhere, we can just text or dial. In spite of making life easier, people tend to lean on to it 100%. This may cause trouble too. People tend to be lazier and spend too much cost for the bills. Example, because it has too many satisfactory, we forget to maintain the cost that we spending on it. Anyway, mobile phones are reshaping the culture these century. People can get galore of information trough this technology.



Critical Reflection 2:
Another media that reshaping the culture is laptop and PC's. Majority of people nowadays have their own laptop/PC even small kids! They tend to use laptop/PC for many reasons. They referring sorts of information trough this technology. Even in some schools build up PC's during their studies in spite of using manual lecture. Laptop/PC plays a big role of educating people from various of ages. It helps to open people's mind from out of the box by inventing this technology. It is possible to reshape the culture because we are drawn by this technology.

:: Media Imperialism ::

Critical Reflection 1:

Based on the video by Adam Curtis, it's basically shows what has happened today in this era. Fact is, everyone knows that America has the greatest power of policy to extending it's rule to the foreign countries, even in Malaysia. It's because America has the power to rule over the weaker countries. Do you notice that nowadays, Some countries band to have or to buy whatever products and foods that are made from US? It's probably because the protestation toward US. In the video we can see all dead bodies were lying on the ground with no head or no hand or maybe left a skeleton. It's all rise after the tragedy of September 11th occurred.

Critical Reflection 2 :

There's other way of imperialism trough media toward us. For instance, the technology product nor media such as car spare parts, hand phones, movies and etc had influence other countries to use such product. Fact is, the products nor media's that made by them are truly satisfaction and in good quality. This shows that countries like America has the power to rule weaker countries or maybe the world. This should be enough to explain imperialism.


Personal Reflection :

I did not turn up to the class today as i overslept. So tired that the night before me and my friend busy packing stuff to moved out from the hostel. I was so determined to go class on next day but the house just make me go more and more sleepy. Well, i think i have to be more energized after this! :)

:: TETRAD OF MEDIA ::

Based on Mcluhan's, tetrad of media is examining the effects on society of any technology/medium put another way meaning of explaining the social processes underlying the adoption of a technology/medium by dividing its effects into four categories and displaying them simultaneously. McLuhan designed the tetrad as a pedagogical tool, phrasing his laws as questions with which to consider any medium. I choose mobile phone as my subject.First question, ''What does this media/technology extends?"Basically. the invention of mobile phones are to contact people that are away from you. Trough mobile phone we can communicate with our friends and families no matter how far we are. Handphones has its benefits too for example, all mobile lines invented a roaming trough all countries. They even make an appopriate cost for all calls and messagers to attract users. As you know, most of all mobile inventions have GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) which we can surf the internet where ever or whenever we are. In case we lost in a middle of a highway or immidiate use of internet, we can just use our mobile phones and surf right away. Besides GPRS, MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) are famous among progressive mobile users. It seems very easy and yet fun thing to do. Next,"What does it make obsolete?"

Blog Assignment- Topic 5

:: Obscenity, Pornography, Indecency ::

-Obscenity-

Obscenity is a term that is most used in legal context to describe expressions (words, images, actions) that offend the prevalent sexual morality of the time. It is often replaced by the word salaciousness.


-Pornography-
Pornography is the explicit depiction of sexual subject matter with the sole intension of sexually exciting the viewer. It is to a certain extent similar to erotica, which is the use of sexually arousing imaginary.


-Indecency-
Decency is a comformity to sociocultural standard of conduct and speech. Most nations have laws againts indecency which regulate certain sexual acts, and restrict ones ability to display certain parts of the body in public.

Critical Reflection 1&2:
As u can see, majority among teenagers nowadays frequently uses multi-languages or short sentences. This communication can lead to changes of attitudes in some individuals. For instance, in Jalan Bukit Bintang u can see most of the teenagers are advanced in socialism such as how thet dressed up, how they speak, how they present themselves and etc. For Indecency, in my opinion how they dressed up is according to the characteristic of an individuals. For example, someone wears an appopriate outfit in public, for some cross-minded community they will take that like a very unprofessional action as though like they are wearing like a pornstar.

For pornography, every human being will go trough their puberty stages. In that mean time process teenagers are having changes in controlling their behaviour such as exploring new things that they haven't explored, socializing with new group of friends and etc. For instance, x-rated movies or pornography magazines are made for adults to satisfy themselves in spite of under age people. Although they knew about it all under age community inclined to take a risk to view them hushly.

Obcenity, as we know that nowdays there alot of multi-languages used by all sorts of community. Harsh words, formal word and etc we can listen to it everyday. But what makes the difference is how they use it by emotionally. For instance, obcene can relate to nudity and can form in words like ''fuck'', ''shit'',''asshole'',''balls'' and etc.

Personal Reflection :
I thought today got no class because he was late. so i when back as i sit there like 15 minutes.

:: MEDIA LITERACY ::

Media literacy is the process of accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres and forms. Media literacy aims to enable people to be skillful creators and producers of media messages, both to facilitate an understanding as to the strengths and limitations of each medium, as well as to create independent media. Media literacy is an expanded conceptualization of literacy. By transforming the process of media consumption into an active and critical process, people gain greater awareness of the potential for misrepresentation and manipulation especially through commersial and public relations techniques, and understand the role of mass media and participatory media in constructing views of reality.

Critical Reflection 1 :

For FCM student, it is good to have media stereotype in studies because it helps to build individual characters to a better education. For instance, by transforming the media consumption into an active and critical process, people gain better awareness of the potential for misrepresentation and manipulation.


Critical Reflection 2 :

It helps student to understand the role of mass media and participatory media in constructing the views of reality for instance in television, people attend to capture the uniqueness of variety of the advertisement, reality shows and etc. The language of the media tend to make the viewers more understand in whatever race, religion, or country in just a second.


Personal Reflection :

As for this week class, i have no comments because it's HOLIDAY.

:: MEDIA STEREOTYPE ::

Media stereotypes are inevitable, especially in the advertising, entertainment and news industries, which need as wide an audience as possible to quickly understand information. Stereotypes act like codes that give audiences a quick, common understanding of a person or group of people usually relating to their class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation.

Critical Reflection 1:

Media stereotype is inevitable as stated above. In my opinion, media stereotype has it good and bad for instance the good of it may develop a better communication between the community. Easy going for making business, contacting clients, promoting products and etc. On the other side, stereotypes can be problematic for instance reduce wide range of differences in people to simplistic catagorizations.
